Here's a non-rotated picture of me and the Hey Rita Tote with a very talented sewing enthusiast...if only I could get the OTHER pictures off my camera...she had an embroidered jacket you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE...with a giant guitar on the back. And I'M NOT KIDDING...awesome...
But you're just gonna have to take my word for it, eh? AND this picture shows Rhonda Pierce in the Schmetz booth wearing her brand new fur/feather velvet coat. AMAZING.... Altho, it shed so badly during the sewing phase -- apparently, she has decided NOT to adopt that cat she was jonesing for...
This last photo is a GREAT SHOT of five women -- SISTERS -- who came from Montana, Wyoming, Washington, etc. -- for their FIRST TIME EVER SISTERS TRIP. Believe me -- at some point -- when I can get back to technology that I understand -- I will tell you all about them. WHAT A GREAT SISTERS PICTURE, EH? CAN YOU READ WHAT'S ON THEIR PINK SHIRTS??
It was such a wonderful first day!! I had a chance to visit with Marilyn and her Mom, and Judy & Chris, Luveta, Jan and Bonne did a FABULOUS JOB with their Nooner event. I think I got some great pictures of them...IF ONLY I COULD FIND THE DARN THINGS...
But right now, I've gotta go through the drive-thru to get something to eat. Fischer's Scones made for a great lunch -- but that was hours ago!! Then, I have some Olympic skating to catch up on...

I WILL POST DURING THE SHOW...

Of course, this all depends on whether or not I can find a computer and GET ONLINE...
My skills are kinda marginal, y'know...
BUT I'M EXCITED ABOUT GIVING IT A GO...
So -- I was wrong -- I am NOT taking a break. Maybe. So keep on comin' back...
Yahoo!! All this work, all the planning, the blogging, the sewing -- it is all about to COME TOGETHER for the biggest sewing party in America...Last year's Ellissimo winner -- Lois Carpenter -- will be there with her sewing friends...
As I get ready to run out the door -- I want to make sure you know that even if you didn't get around to ordering your seminar and/or event tickets in advance -- you CAN BUY THEM at the show. There are lots of classes and events available and you can buy tickets THE DAY OF THE EVENT.
The Ticket Booth is in the Showplex building -- over by the Free Stage. They accept cash, check or credit cards. And if you end up being able to go to the show for an extra day -- that should be your FIRST STOP...
And -- this year -- as you come in the gate -- you will be given a very simple one-page "flyer". The PURPOSE OF THE FLYER is to let you know what classes and/or events ARE AVAILABLE ON THAT DAY...
Okay. That's it. I'm packing up my bags and getting on a plane...

Then I remembered BONASH 007 powder! I saw it being demonstrated last fall at Quilt Market. It's a powdered "bonding agent" -- and was EXACTLY what I needed to lightly bond my two large circles of fabric together. I want to use knit fabric -- and my 007powder made the whole project easy as pie....magical..
Bonash is a new vendor at EXPO this year. Be sure you stop over to see Beryl's great demos...Booth #1000, 1003.
I AM EXCITED ABOUT SHOWING you the very unique project I made, using Bonash 007 boning powder! IT IS AMAZING...(and I wanted to do the no-sew edge fringe that started such a lively discussion over on my Ritassewfun blog..

The next picture is Mary Collen -- Expo's Style Show Manager. As with any worthwhile event, there is ALWAYS a woman behind the scenes, making sure things stay on track. If things go according to plan, you never think about how much work had to happen BEFORE the models take the stage. The companies plan their show, do the sewing, ship the garments, etc. Then, the day before Expo opens, Mary schedules the rehearsals -- and every single garment must be FIT to a model. Mary puts every show on the computer, with the proper order of thing, etc. -- and every model has a "dresser" so they can make those quick changes. They lay out their shoes, accessories, etc. Once again -- OH YEAH -- it TAKES A VILLAGE...
Mary has a very cheerful, capable crew of official "dressers" backstage...and they make sure everything goes smooth a silk...

Just thought I would share this with you as I begin to think of the Expo this year. Last year I was 36 weeks pregnant with my second child. The week of Expo I went into labor. The doctors gave me medicine to stop my labor and put me on modified bed rest. I was determined to get to Expo! I was told I could attend if I went in a wheelchair. So I did. My lovely mom pushed me around. I walked "a little" and was told the Saturday of Expo I was no longer at considered pre-term so I could start walking again. We attended Expo Thursday and Friday. Saturday we headed to the Zoo. I gave birth to my baby girl (who is in the Burda contest!) the last day of the Expo!
We will do ANYTHING to attend expo, even if it means possibly going into labor there!

I just may stop at the Schmetz booth - with my 10 year old granddaughter. She is SO super excited about the show. She lives in Reno and I live in Oregon, and she is coming up to the show with me. She sends me text massages about every other day to ask me something about it or just to tell me how excited she is! Last year was her first time - she LOVED it. I have said this elsewhere, so you may have already heard her quote (I just love it and it's so true). On Friday, our first day there, I asked her if the Expo was what she had thought it would be; her answer - it was way better; it was a sewing PARADISE!!! LOL
I COULD NOT AGREE MORE -- A SEWING PARADISE!! I love it, love it, love it... I'm looking forward to seeing you BOTH at Friday Night LIVE!!

As I am working on my own garment -- I was inspired by this t-shirt -- the color pink -- the shape of a heart -- and the flavor of chocolate!!
We are THRILLED with the response of YOU -- our audience -- to this Pink & Red challenge. One talented group of women (six women made eight outfits) -- actually used the challenge as a way to SEW their family history...and the story of the brave women in their family who have SURVIVED cancer and heart disease -- is very inspiring indeed.
I would like to go over -- one more time -- how you can go to BurdaStyle and VOTE for your favorites. Remember -- only the top ten vote-getters will be invited to WALK IN THE SHOW on Sunday morning...
First of all -- go to Burdastyle.com -- then, at the bottom of the page -- in the area that says "from the blogs" --you must then click on "view all articles" -- AND, altho it keeps moving, you just keep scrolling down until you see the headline: "Vote for your favorite project in the Coats & Clark Pink and Red Fashion show at the Sewing Stitchery Expo". When you click on those words, you will be taken away to TWO albums. They had so many entries, they had to put up Part 1 and Part 2.

One of their favorite Expo teachers -- Linda McGehee -- loved the idea of their challenge and last year -- she brought it to the Expo Stage. Linda did the narration of their EXPO CHALLENGE event. Were you there? It was amazing...to see what two very different sewing artists do, given the SAME fabric, or the SAME pattern or technique. It was fascinating.
This year -- their event will be the KICK OFF NOONER EVENT. On Thursday -- THE OPENING DAY -- Jan and Bonne will be on the Expo Runway with their brand new "Inspired 2 Sew -- The Challenge of 2 Friends"...
It's at 12:30 on THURSDAY (as the professional models allegedly eat lunch)...
I'd like to take this opportunity to THANK JAN AND BONNE for helping me to launch this show blog. Their initial enthusiasm kept me going -- on days when it felt like nobody was reading it. They'd send me emails, encouraging notes, and, of course -- it was THEIR IDEA that I start the show blog with a RECYCLED JEANS CHALLENGE...

And -- guess what -- the Sewing & Stitchery Expo is not the only show our teachers do. Most of our speakers have a busy year-around travel schedule. I run into them at Quilt Market in Houston -- and many of them recently taught at a consumer show in Denver, Colorado. THEY ARE A WELL TRAVELED GROUP...believe me!!
Nobody works harder than a "Sewing Star". They work to develop new patterns, write books, create lines of fabric. AND every year, they create a new class.
What's really cool about this is that most of them LAUNCH THEIR NEW CLASSES at our show. We are honored that Puyallup is the perfect time and place people in the sewing industry come to see the NEXT BIG THING...
Which brings me to Lyla Messinger. One of Expo's most popular speakers -- Lyla does business 365 days a year. She manages a very busy website, The Sewing Place , travels extensively, and comes out with new patterns and products every year. Here's a picture of the hands-on projecct Lyla is teaching at the show:
The class description says:
Create a unique necklace in class, using a beautiful Riri zipper from Switzerland. Completely transform the zipper's look, so some might say "where's the zipper?" Leave class wearing your creation and ready to try your hand at another. your kit includes everything you need to complete your necklace.
The class is on thursday & Saturday, from 8:00 - 10:30 AM in the Restaurant Building. the cost is $25 for the class, and a $25 kit fee.

Then, we were to share a "sewing story" -- and I talked about the year I was 12. Mom made five gingham dresses for me and my sisters for Easter that year. For a visual -- I brought some vintage aprons -- all gingham, with "chicken scratch" embroidery..
Young Connie said she NEVER HAD AN APRON. Really? And the girl BAKED CUPCAKES FOR US!! I was thrilled to give Connie her first apron...

On Sunday, February 28, 2010, Coats & Clark is sponsoring the first ever Pink & Red Fashion Show. We've partnered with the two organizations that are fighting the two biggest killers of women in America -- heart disease and breast cancer...and this is NOT going to be just another style show...
As you know, we issued a challenge to the audience -- and asked YOU to make a pink and red garment. Then, upload it to Burda, where the audience would be encouraged to vote for their favorites.....
Coats & Clark had no idea what a chord this would strike for one family....they got together, and six women made eight different outfits...all to honor the women in their lives who were stricken with breast cancer or heart disease. Carol wrote this about their project:
Through the history of historical dress, I would like to introduce you to my friend, Dawn, and her grandmothers, along with my family, and the women who have been stricken with breast cancer and heart disease. We have chosen to represent these women in costumes from the year of their birth. Please note, these costumes are historically inspired, not historically accurate.
Like the women before us who knew how precious thread was to producing their needed garments and wears, let us not waste our lives. Let us re-purpose to live our lives fully. Intentionally. Deliberately. Let us not stuff our dreams and hopes into cupboards and plastic bins, but rather, enjoy the beauty of life around us and be grateful for what we do have.

So -- this year -- we will have THREE MORE STYLE SHOWS on the Expo Runway. We like to think of them as a "community effort".
10:30 -- Project Kids fashion Show. A FIRST TIME EVENT. Come see what Connie and her talented group of elementary age sew-ists have created for your viewing pleasure. Because Baby Lock has been so supportive of her program -- rumor has it that Steve Jeffery will be joining them on the stage (he's a big honcho at Baby Lock). AND maybe they've made a gift for him?
11:30 -- Morning, Noon & Night Fashion Show. ANOTHER FIRST TIME EVENT. This is going to be very special. A challenge was put out to local area design schools -- and this style show will be their chance to strut their stuff. Our very own version of "Project Runway" -- right here on the EXPO RUNWAY...fun, eh?
12:30 -- For the Love of Sewing. ANOTHER FIRST TIME EVENT. And this is one I would not think of missing. The local ASG guild members, many of them CTA's as well -- are joining forces to create this special showcase of their creations. Clothes, quilts, who knows?? These are people with a deep love of sewing who are bringing you their best...

I received my tickets today -- haven't even had a chance to check to see if I got all that I requested. Barely care, just glad I have them (and spouse's admission tickets).
So, short of making sure I'm not doing laundry the night before, so we can pack, we are set.
Just need to concentrate on work and not think about SewExpo until I'm home (otherwise just go into giggles and the happy dance).

These companies work hard to put together these wonderful fast-paced style shows. We hire professional models for them, Mary Collen is the Style show Manager. Which, believe me -- IS a full time job during the show. She is the woman BEHIND the scenes. She has the complete roster for every style show. Every show has a rehearsal, there is a dresser for every model for every show...every single garment is put into the computer schedule...
For you to show your appreciation for all the BEHIND THE SCENES time and work involved in putting on these FREE STYLE SHOWS -- not to mention ALL THAT SEWING -- please attend every single show during your time at Expo.
